M/S Balto

M/S Balto is a tough expedition ship constructed in 1975 in Finland to the highest ice-class standards. She is 40 meters long and 9 meters wide.

She is named after the legendary lead sled dog of the 1925 Nome Serum run. Following a comprehensive refit in 2022, she was transformed into an elegant ship, combining classic style with serious expedition capability.

Balto comfortably accommodates 12 guests in a cozy atmosphere and our 10 experienced and friendly crew will make you feel right at home.

Guest Cabins

Balto has 7 spacious cabins as 3 deluxe twins, 1 deluxe double, 2 deluxe singles and 1 deluxe suite. All are with private bathrooms, lower beds and minimum 1 porthole.

The deluxe suite is extra spacious at 23m2 with a sofa arrangement and 6 windows on the maindeck.

Restaurant, Lounge, Sauna & Hottub

The richly appointed saloon and dining messroom are finished in classic crotch-mahogany panelling and feature a bar, small library, and coffee and tea station. These welcoming spaces are designed for shared meals, expedition briefings, and to relax after spending our days searching for whales.

A small onboard sauna with shower offers welcome relaxation after spending the day on the ocean, and you can gaze at the breathtaking landscape from the hottub on the outside deck.

Zodiacs

On all of our ships, we run 2 zodiacs with one in-water guide and one skipper on each. The zodiacs are app. six meters long and licensed for 12 persons, but we limit numbers to max 6 guests to keep the groups small and provide you the best encounters.
