Our Operation
We operate two liveaboard ships in Arctic Norway with focus to swim with orcas and whales. Being shipbased we are able to move with the action, and to get away from the crowds in search of relaxed animals & peaceful encounters.
Soft Encounters
We practice soft encounters and follow the regional guidelines for whale watching and swimming. This allows for best animal interaction and most importantly leaves as little impact on the wildlife as possible.
Our approach is with patience and respect. We do not chase or harass whales. Sometimes we will follow whales for a while hoping to get the right opportunity to quietly join them in their world. If we do not get that opportunity, we will enjoy them topside which is equally breathtaking.
Small groups
On each ship, we run 2 zodiacs with one in-water expedition leader and one skipper on each zodiac.
Zodiacs are 6 meters long and licensed for 12 persons, but we limit numbers to max 6 guests to keep the groups small and give you the best encounters.
M/S Freya
M/S Freya is a heavy duty expedition ship built in 1981 to Lloyds Ice Class 1A. Being 45 meters long and 10 meters wide, she is a big ship with lots of space to move around.
Freya was refurbished in 2024 and comfortably accommodates 12 guests in an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Our 9 experienced and friendly crew onboard Freya will make you feel right at home on your arctic adventure.
R/V Kinfish
R/V Kinfish is a serious expedition ship with high comfort. She has been converted from a Norwegian rescue- and research vessel and is 37 meter long and 7 meters wide, with an ice strengthened hull and high-tech instruments.
Kinfish had a large renovation in 2024 including complete refurbishment of all guest cabin bathrooms, and she comfortably accommodates 12 guests in an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Our 9 experienced and friendly crew onboard Kinfish will take good care of you.
Itinerary
Day 1
Board the ship in the afternoon between 4-5 pm in Tromso. Welcome briefing and dinner followed by a night cruise to the best area for whales at the given time of your orca expedition.
Day 2-6
We spend 5 full days searching for orcas and whales to swim with. We use all daylight so you will get the best chances of encounters. First day starts with a "check swim" to get everybody comfortable with gear and zodiacs.
Every day, our skilled crew do their utmost to locate the whales and get you in a position to dive into their world. You are welcome to join the search from the viewing platforms on the ship or if you prefer you can stay warm inside the expedition ship and enjoy the dramatic fjord landscape with a hot cup of coffee. Hot lunch is waiting when daylight fades and you can then relax in the lounges or in your cabin. After dinner we will lead walking trips away from light pollution to give you the best chances of the magical northern lights.
Last day we start cruising back to Tromso during the late afternoon and spend the night in port.
Day 7
After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye and disembark the ship latest at 9 am.
